João Luís is both a first-class guitarist with an exceptionally moving sound and astonishing versatility, as well as a gifted composer who skillfully and artfully blends Brazilian music, classical, and jazz.
Born in Minas Gerais, a southeastern state of Brazil, and raised in Rio de Janeiro, he began playing the guitar at the age of six.
By the age of ten, João Luís was already merging musical universes in his compositions: the rural world of Minas Gerais and the urban music of the metropolis of Rio de Janeiro, along with other styles, were already intimately familiar to the young talent.
In 2002, he was awarded the prize for Best Young Instrumentalist at the prestigious BDMG Cultural music competition in Brazil.
After completing his classical guitar studies under Dr. Prof. Guilherme Vincens, he performed and co-produced the album Brasiliando by singer Júlia Ribas, which was recognized by the newspaper O Globo as the Best Brazilian Album of 2005.
In 2007, the musician and composer moved to Germany to study jazz guitar, earning his diploma from the Folkwang University in Essen.
Since then, João Luís has enjoyed a solid career in Europe and beyond.
The exceptional guitarist has already performed at venues such as the Manzoni (Milan, ITA), the Theatre of the Royal Northern Sinfonia (Gateshead, GBR), and the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall (Moscow, RUS).
